So whats wrong with taking older superiour games with sub par graphics and sounds and remaking them with modern graphics and sounds whilst keeping the superiour gameplay?

Im quite sure i wrote about "modern dumbed-down remakes". Hmm, yep it is still there.
Dunno, maybe you missed it but there are 3 kinds of remakes: - ones where only graphics, some major bugs plus few other minor things are fixed. Those remakes i like and have absolutely nothing against them (ofc when "new super 3d gfx" looks nicer than 1995 2d sprites - example of remake i dont like from this kind is UFO AI, graphics is just so damn ugly that X-COM does it better). - new and "supercool" remakes made for idiot-players of AD 2010: X-COM (the new one) is prime example of this. So is Front Mission Evolved (well it is supposedly next game in cycle but... um.... yeah... quite good tactics was made into mediciore shooter). And prolly tons of other games. - new game (and new title) trying to work as "spiritual successor" to older games BUT failing. Be it with stupid mechanics, dumbing down gameplay, bugs worse than in original game, or w/ever. Elemental (MOM) and Fantasy Wars (successor to Fantasy General) sit in this category.
Till now most remakes were the 2nd or 3rd type. Thats why i just prefer old series to be left alone. They are still playable to this day and at least noone will screw them up. 3rd type is not totaly bad (as they dont take name of original series) but when you see that game takes most from older title and fails to even land on comparable level, its kinda sad. Still there are some decent/good games in 3rd category (at least for me: UFO: After- series, Afterlight imo was very solid game, well maybe except for candyland graphics).
tl;dr most new "remakes" arent even remakes per se, they are just using old series names to deliver new ****ty game. And true remakes are kinda rare (but tend to be good).
